Here's a bit of research fun for a rainy day. If you know the answer, please don't give it here - leave the fun for others.
I was on Google Earth today, finding directions to one of tomorrow's appointments. I needed to measure a distance and wanted to change the units from miles to yards. While doing so, I noticed a unit of measure called the Smoot.
I leave it to you to figure out what a Smoot is, how long it is, how it was developed, and anything else useless you can turn up. If you find something really cool, send it to me via email. I'll publish the coolest stuff in a week or so.
[Updated 17 August 2007 with the answer.]
A Smoot is a unit of measure based on the body length of MIT student Oliver R. Smoot.
