Equations convey much information in short, memorable snippets. Think, for example, of Einstein's E=MC squared and all it has led to.
Equations are useful for leaders, too. As Chief Innovation Officer at Carter Holt Harvey I often used the equation
Ideas + Action = Innovation
to stress the point that we needed more than just ideas - we had to do something with them.
Other equations that work for me include:
- Passion + Talent = Success
- Alternatives + Analysis = Decision
- Focus + Action = Results
- Talent + Training = Strength (borrowed from Tom Rath)
- Curiosity + Listening = Understanding
- Mistake + Reflection + Action = Growth
What are a few equations that work for you?

I'll draw a name late Sunday. The winner will get...
A free 40 minute telephone coaching session with me! No matter where you are in the world, we'll find a time for me to call you and work on whatever challenge or issue you wish.
